Green Spring Valley Hounds & Hunt Club

The Green Spring Valley territory consists of about 35 miles square in Baltimore County and all of Carroll County. The home country and north country are open and rolling with great deal of grass. Some sections lying in between are rough and heavily wooded. Post-rail, coops, and board fences predominate. The east side of the country adjoins Elkridge-Harford Hunt; on the west and northwest side of the country adjoins Howard County Iron-Bridge Hunt and the Frederick county line.

North American Field Hunter Championships 2017

Congratulations to Green Spring's own Frankie Cubero on qualifying on the first day of the North American Field Hunter Championships, and for winning overall Best Turned Out at the Finals! Well done, Frankie!

MFHA Foundation Benefit Field Hunter Trials 2017

 Sunday, September 24th
 
A lovely group of horses, ponies, and riders showed up to ride in the MFHA Fieldhunter Trial at Jackson Hole Farm.  Five different hunts were represented and, in spite of the warm temperatures, everyone had a great time.  Many thanks to all the contestants, judges and spectators for coming!
 

Puppy Show Photos 2017

Green Spring had an informal Puppy Show Sept 9th with our new huntsman, Ashley Hubbard, and his professional whip, newly-returned Tim Michel, aided by kennelman Klaus Lygren. The idea behind the Puppy Show is to introduce the puppies who will be entered this season to the show ring and to get another perspective on their conformation. Thank you to this year's judges Geoff Hyde (Elkridge-Harford) & Dan O'Toole  (Mt. Carmel). While all the hounds looked great, the winner of the dogs was Naylor and of the bitches, Playgirl. Look for these puppies and others to shine at the upcoming hound shows!

The Green Spring Valley Hounds Point-to-Point will offer a full card of flat and timber races, as well as Junior races.
Steeplechasing is a Maryland Tradition and Maryland Steeplechase Season starts with the Green Spring Valley Hounds Point to Point.
The Race takes place on beautiful Shawan Downs, the property has grown into a first-class equestrian center and steeplechase course.
The slope of Shawan's hills ensures there is not a bad seat in the house.

Finish Line Boxes $500 - Sales close for Finish Line Boxes March 20th

Be front and center to cheer on the horses and jockeys as they run down the stretch in your own open-air box. With this purchase you will get a Premier Parking Pass for one car and one General Parking Pass.
Once parking on the crest of the hill you can carry your Tailgate items down the hill to your box to enjoy the day!  Limited availability, first come first serve, and will be assigned your spot along the finish line! Purchase online only.

Premium Parking Pass $250

The parking will be on the level platform overlooking the racecourse with superb views.  The entrance is at the main gate on Shawan Road, and purchasers will receive their admission credentials via email the week before the race.  Purchase online only.

General Admission $50
General Admission parking is the entrance off of Falls Road, and parking up at the top of the hill above the fence.
Spectators would your their chairs, etc., and walk down the hill to view the races from the slope just north of the racecourse, or fan along the rail west towards John Brown's Store. General Admission Tickets are available for purchase at the gate on race day for cash or check.  Please bring exact change as this money/checks will be dropped into a box with the attendants at the entrance.

Please consider purchasing an advertisement in the race program for the upcoming Green Spring Point-to-Point.  The Livestream of this year's steeplechase race meet is approximately 2000 people - this year our Program will be online and your ad will be featured on our Social Media - in color!.
 Advertising in this race program is an excellent way to gain business exposure and show your support for the strong steeplechase racing culture in Maryland. Advertisement options are outlined in this Contract. Standard options include the ¼ page at $100 (5.”x2”), ½ page, for $175 (5”x4”) and a full page for $250 (5”x8”).

Family farm Day 2 9.20.15The Green Spring Valley Hounds provided a demonstration and got rave reviews from spectators at the Family Farm Day September 20th at the Ag Center. Paint Night 9.10.15Green Spring members and friends had a blast creating a fox portrait on September 10th at the Club. The Painted Palette on Baltimore provided all the supplies and instruction for this fundraiser.

Cubbing Q & A

Q: What is the difference between hound exercise and cubbing?
A: This is the time where all the preparation starts to come together; hounds are fit and the young entry have been exposed to everything they might encounter out hunting. Up to this point, we have spent our time keeping the curiosity in check and trying to maintain a level of calm; and finally the day comes where everything changes. Now we expect them to almost do the opposite of what we have been doing throughout hound exercise. As you can imagine, this could be a little confusing to a young hound.
